Zama Montessori Centre
Zama Montessori Centre is a Progressive member school, situated on a small holding in Putfontein, Benoni. The purpose of the centre is to give support to young children through the provision of schooling and support systems for the families. This is done through a Montessori education, which is usually the privilege of more affluent children. At the heart of the centre’s goals is a desire to make this type of education accessible to children who would otherwise not have access to it due to economic constraints. The centre’s Montessori curriculum is currently able to educate children up to the end of primary school. The centre provides educational and day care services for a number of 80 children ranging from 2 years to 12 years of age. Some of the children are orphaned or HIV affected and the centre provides support for their life at home with regular supplies of food parcels and clothes. Parent education workshops are also held at the centre to support our mainly young parents in child rearing methods and to introduce them to the Montessori philosophy. Workshops in Montessori education are given at the request of schools and individuals. This school's annual membership/ child levy is fully/ partially sponsored by SAMA and the school forms part of the outreach projects.
