Ikhaya Labantwana is currently a Progressive member school. This schools annual membership/ child levy is fully/ partially sponsored by SAMA and the school forms part of the outreach projects. Ikhaya Labantana Montessori is a community project under Sustainable Coffee Bay NPO. We are situated in Jonga village, Coffee Bay in the rural Eastern Cape. Ikhaya Labantwana opened in 2010 in a 5m rented rondawel with 15 children and when the waiting list for the pre-school reached 60 children in June 2011, we knew we had to do something. We applied to the National Development Agency for funds to build a bigger early learning centre that would be able to accommodate 60 young learners. They supported our project and we moved into our new building in April 2013. We are currently providing 45 children aged 2.5 to 6 years old with a stimulating early learning environment, guided in both isiXhosa and English, using the SAMA Montessori Curriculum. This solid foundation is imperative for these rural children, as it will assist them with all later learning. We provide the children with two healthy meals per day and a multi-vitamin supplement. 8 Local ladies from surrounding villages are currently studying Montessori Early Childhood Development, NQF Level 5, which will provide them with the necessary skills to develop good quality Montessori pre-schools in the surrounding villages.
If any school would like to get involved with our project, in any way, please feel free to contact us.
SAMA Annexures referring to Curriculum only go up to and including 12 years.
