Study Montessori

Prior to 2007, South African Montessori training and distance learning centres were offering courses that were not registered with an assessment authority or any recognised South African accrediting body.

The Education and Training Quality Assurance (ETQA) regulations were published in 1998 and provided for the accreditation of Education and Training Quality Assurance bodies. These bodies are responsible for accrediting providers of “education and training standards and qualifications registered on the NQF”, monitoring provision, evaluating assessment and facilitating moderation across providers, and registering assessors.

There is currently no South African standard setting and accrediting body for Montessori teacher accreditation.

Students are reminded that they are currently guided by teaching qualifications recognised by state educational authorities in the level(s) they are teaching as per the “policy on Minimum Requirements for Programmes Leading to Qualifications in Higher Education for Practitioners and Educators in Early Childhood Care and Education”.
